Decided to take a quick impromptu trip through Bald Mountain Jeep Trail.
The weather was great and the water holes were a bit shallower than normal on the trails. It was about an hour drive out from Charlottesville (if you don't count the time I spent driving the wrong way). Make sure you take Route 660 to the trail head. If you just follow Google it will take you the wrong way to a gate and private property that does not link over to the trail head.
Most people know this trail, it is fairly simple and my friend's stock YJ had no issues. What I don't understand is why every possibly fun/technical routes on the mountain are either blocked or marked off. There is a lot of potential on this trail and I am wondering why it hasn't been developed. Does it have the potential of Pott's Mountain, no. However, it could be developed to be an ok trail with moderate routes. I believe it is a state managed route, as is Potts, so what is the difference? Why are all the potentially fun routes blocked off? I don't know but will reach out to the state to see why.
